Cell Phone Policy
2024-25 Cell Phone Policy (PPM 128)
In accordance with new policy from the Ontario Ministry of Education, we will be implementing a “No Cell From Bell to Bell” initiative at WH Morden. All students from grades 1-6 must keep cell phones in their lockers or backpacks at all times. Students in grades 7 and 8 are expected to leave their cell phones and ear buds in lockers or in backpacks at all times unless explicitly directed to use them from their teacher.
We will be taking a progressive discipline approach with students who are having difficulty adopting the new expectations. The following steps will be taken:
First Time -Student will be given a verbal reminder of the expected practice will be asked to put cell phone away
Second Time -Student will be directed to put cell phone in a designated safe space within the classroom, or in the office for the remainder of the day
Third Time -Parents will be contacted and students will temporarily lose the privilege of having their cell phone at school (will either have to leave it at home, or keep it in the office for a week)
Families that need to reach out to their child during the day to coordinate alternative pick up arrangements, appointments or the drop off of forgotten lunches and other items can contact the main office (905-844-9612). A phone is also available there for student use during nutrition breaks or other times as needed. If there is an emergency and you need to contact your child, the best way is through the office to ensure privacy and provide any student support that might be needed.
We would appreciate your support in reviewing the No Cell From Bell to Bell policy and the HDSB Code of Conduct linked here with your child. The code of conduct promotes respect, civility, responsibility and academic excellence, and sets clear standards of behaviour for all members of the school community. The No Cell From Bell to Bell policy will help students develop healthy relationships, make good choices, and continue their learning and achieve success.
